Abortion in Turkey

Although abortion has been legally permitted in Turkey since 1983, access to it is not always guaranteed. This is a fact that cannot be separated from the condemning comments made by politicians whose impact sometimes seems stronger than the state’s legislation itself. The abortion procedure is performed in our hospital using a vacuum and under general anesthesia, and it takes about 10-15 minutes. The patient can rest for 15 minutes after the operation, and then return to her normal life afterwards. In the abortion procedure, general or local anesthesia is applied. During the examination, the anesthesia is determined. If the patient wants general anesthesia, she should not eat anything five to six hours before the operation. If local anesthesia is to be applied, there is no need for a fasting period. Local anesthesia is generally preferred in patients who have been pregnant before. For patients who will undergo general anesthesia, a vascular access will be opened before the operation by inducing anesthesia for the patient, i.e. drowsiness, and giving medication to the patient. After that, the endoscope is connected to the patient. After proper cleaning, the cervix dilates depending on the week of pregnancy. So it is expanded. Next, the appropriate size of the plastic cannula is selected and the pregnancy product is inhaled.

Why should an abortion be performed in a hospital?

Abortion is performed in hygienic conditions in a hospital, sterile environment in an operating room by a gynecologist. Abortion is an easy procedure for a gynecologist, lasting 5 minutes.
