Abortion in Turkey

Although abortion has been legally permitted in Turkey since 1983, access to it is not always guaranteed. This is a fact that cannot be separated from the condemning comments made by politicians whose impact sometimes seems stronger than the state’s legislation itself. Abortion in Turkey is the procedure to remove the child or fetus located in the abdomen. Or because it is in the uterus that live or dead children grow, and they usually reproduce the pregnancy by relaxing and suctioning the uterus.

The cost of abortion in Turkey

Abortion prices in Turkey vary in general. It may vary according to the pricing policy of each center, the type of anesthesia used or the duration of pregnancy. These numbers can vary from $500 to $1,500. When choosing a center to perform an abortion, the choice should be made by asking and researching the environment in which the procedure will take place, the doctor who will perform the procedure, and the materials used.

For whom is the abortion procedure applied?

The week of pregnancy is calculated by considering the first day of the last menstrual period (menstrual period). Abortion: An unmarried woman over the age of 18 can have an abortion voluntarily, while a married woman is not required to go with her husband to the center. If he is under 18 years old, he can be treated with the permission of a relative and parents.

How is abortion performed in Turkey

The abortion procedure was performed using sharp instruments called curettes. But nowadays, this is done using a technique we call vacuum aspiration. The tools used here consist of a scarlet cannula that resembles a large needle and has plastic tips that vary in thickness according to the week of pregnancy performing the abortion. These plastic heads must be opened for each patient and disposed of after the operation. The abortion procedure is performed in our hospital using a vacuum and under general anesthesia, and it takes about 10-15 minutes. The patient can rest for 15 minutes after the operation, and then return to her normal life afterwards. In the abortion procedure, general or local anesthesia is applied. During the examination, the anesthesia is determined. If the patient wants general anesthesia, she should not eat anything five to six hours before the operation. If local anesthesia is to be applied, there is no need for a fasting period. Local anesthesia is generally preferred in patients who have been pregnant before. For patients who will undergo general anesthesia, a vascular access will be opened before the operation by inducing anesthesia for the patient, i.e. drowsiness, and giving medication to the patient. After that, the endoscope is connected to the patient. After proper cleaning, the cervix dilates depending on the week of pregnancy. So it is expanded. Next, the appropriate size of the plastic cannula is selected and the pregnancy product is inhaled.

Why should an abortion be performed in a hospital?

Abortion is performed in hygienic conditions in a hospital, sterile environment in an operating room by a gynecologist. Abortion is an easy procedure for a gynecologist, lasting 5 minutes. However, it must be performed in a sterile operating room environment. In addition to all of these things, blood type testing, blood testing, and gynecological examination are essential for the safety of patients before the abortion procedure.
